As the Russians were closing in on Berlin, Aldolf Hitler was beginning to get very worried for his life. The Red Army (the Russians) were coming from the east, the French from the south-east, Americans from the south and the British from the west. Eventually the Red Army marched in to Berlin by force and on the 30th of April 1945, reached the Hitler's Youth. After hours of firefighting Hitler's body was found. As the Red Army enterd the bunker they found Hitler with a bullet in his head and a poison stick in his mouth. He was asumed to have commited suicide. This day was therefore named VE day. All people celebrated, as the war in Europe was over. vb.jpg

End of war in the Pacific

As the war in Europe was over, the Allies focused on the other side of the globe. The Pacific battles were fought by the Australians and Americans. The war was still out of control over in Asia as the Japanese were invading countries and gaining territories. After four years of war, the Japanese had taken over all countries from Japan to Indonesia. By the the last few weeks of the war, they had reached Sydney, Australia.

Years before the end of the war, the Allies had been planning to kill Hitler and his army by a massive bomb. When the death of Hitler came they did not bother to use it on Germany, but the war in the Pacific was still going on.

On August 6th, 1945, the bomb was dropped on Hiroshima. This was the first atomic bomb, which was dropped on the city and wiped it out in one. Most people died in the enormous explosion, which towered as high as 10,000m and expanded over 83% of Hiroshima, Japan. The survivors of the explosion died hours later of wounds and radiation. Three days after the first atomic bomb the Allied leaders met with the Japanese leaders to discuss the end of the war. The Japanese did not want to stop and so on August 9th 1945, the second atomic bomb was dropped on Nagasaki, wiping out all life in the city. A day later the Japanese sent a telegram to the Allied forces saying the war was over.

The war was finally over, the world began to celebrate as the 6 years of pain were over. Every country's leader announced the war was over, this for some people was disappointing, as they had lost the war and were never going to rule the world. The majority of the people were happy. The world was normal again and the history of the war was remembered. The war was known to be the worst war on the history of the planet. Men, boys and women returned to their friends and family.

So as you can see in the end, the war was hard for the planet as friends and family were lost and the destruction of two Japanese cities.
