What is D Day?
D-Day is a military term of a designating the day a military operation started. The best known D Day military operation began on 6th june 1944. This was an a large boat attack on the Normandy Beach.This D Day was also know as operation Overlord.

D-Day operation
The Normandy landings were the landing operations of the Allied invasion of normandy. The operation was known as Over lord and operation Neptune, there were also two decoy operations called operation Glimmer and Taxable to distract the german forces away from the real landing areas. The landings commenced on Tuesday, 6th June 1944 , beginning at 6:30 am but this was delayed to 7:00am.

The assault was split up in two phases: an airborne assault landing of 24,000 British, American, Canadian and Free French airborne troops shortly after midnight, and an amphibious landing of Allied infantry and armoured divisions on the coast of France commencing at 6:30 AM. There were also decoy operations mounted under the codenames Operation Glimmer and Operation Taxable to distract the German forces from the real landing areas.The operation was the largest amphibious invasion in world history, with over 160,000 troops landing on the Normandy beaches.The landings took place along a 50 mile (80km) stretch of the Normandy coast divided into five sectors: Utah, Omaha, Gold, Juno and Sword.
